The Ökumenische Initiative Eine Welt, organisation representing Earth Charter International Internacional in Germany, has just published in its internet magazine an article by Grian titled ‘Horizontality vs Leadership: The Dilemma of an Ethnocentric West in the Light of Indigenous Cultures’.
In this article, Grian discusses recent sociological developments in which representative democracies are being challenged by market control over them, while participatory approaches based on horizontality are proposed as a possible solution. But things are not as simple as they seem.
In this article, reviewed by Christine Clar, Grian has included a beautiful Zulu story adapted by the Dutch storyteller and educator Dick de Groot, which illustrates other modes of social organisation and decision-making based on the Zulu ancestral wisdom of Ubuntu.
